The Valley of the Waveney

Running time 105mins

In 1965 the Jermy Bros produced a film exploring the valley of the River Waveney. Bordering the counties of Norfolk and Suffolk, we are taken on a journey from the rivers source all the way to the sea.

Beginning in Redgrave near Diss, the film follows two young lads and their canoe as they paddle past various towns and villages. Along the way we stop at various towns and villages including Harleston, Bungay and Beccles, before heading on to Burgh St. Peter and Breydon Water. Finally, the boys follow the river to where it joins the sea in Great Yarmouth.

As a record of local history, the 100-minute film shows working watermills plus the many other buildings and locations which have changed over the years. It also opens up a window into the lives and livelihoods of the people that resided alongside the beautiful Waveney Valley all those years ago.
